Karla Arredondo
Executive Director
My name is Karla Guadalupe Arredondo Payan. I am a first-generation graduate of Augsburg University with a double major in Sociology and Metro Urban Studies (2016). I was born in Mexico and came to the United States when I was two with my parents. I have been raised and lived in North Minneapolis my entire life which has shaped a large portion of who I am as a person, my beliefs, and the career I want to pursue. I am deeply passionate about building community, strengthening engagement, and shaping leaders within the community. I believe everyone is a leader and together can build a stronger movement together!
My work experience includes working as a community organizer for a neighborhood in south Minneapolis for over 3 years. During my time there, I helped residents create the first Renters Party for the community held every year in the summer. Helped the organization grow and expand their community engagement to all residents. I have served as a community liaison by building relationships with different organizations and nonprofits such as the City of Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Public Schools, and others to bring resources for the community.
To me, community organizing is not a one size fits all approach, but rather a learning and experimental process. I enjoy the challenge of getting to know communities to see how to help organizations achieve their goals. I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to work with Pueblos de Lucha Y Esperanza and learn more about the work they have achieved so far! I look forward to learning more and being able to help expand the organization to serve the whole community!
